RSN Tutor, Deborah Wilding will be teaching this hand embroidery class at Fashion Museum Bath on Saturday 16th May 2020. The class is suitable for all levels and has been inspired by a beautiful pair of embroidered shoes dating from the mid 1700s.

This Silk Shading and Goldwork class will focus on the embroidered flowers and Goldwork on the shoe. The techniques covered will include the use of metal plate, chips and couched thread to create the pattern which you will decorate with silk shaded flowers and leaves.

The shoes will be part of a new shoe display in the Museum galleries opening at the end of March 2020. The class will begin with a viewing of the shoes with a curator.

Please note that this is an image of the actual shoe and our motif will be added to this page shortly.

The class kit must be bought from the tutor on the day for £30 (cash only) and will include everything you require to complete the project.

You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

The workshop runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Fashion Museum, Assembly Rooms, Bennett Street, Bath BA1 2QH. All attendees must be comfortable climbing stairs. The class takes place in the Fashion Museum Study Facilities, which is on the first floor of the Assembly Rooms. The class includes a ticket to the Museum, valid for a month from the date of the class.
