RSN Tutor, Helen Jones will be teaching a bespoke Blackwork embroidery class at The D-Day Story Museum on Friday 24 May, 2019 as part of a series of classes inspired by the Overlord Embroidery, which the RSN made from 1968 to 1974. The class is suitable for all levels with beginners welcome.
Blackwork is an embroidery technique which traditionally was used to create attractive monochrome patterns on clothing. In this class you will use different thicknesses of black thread and manipulate old patterns to create contemporary images. You will practice the technique to create a wartime image of searchlights and Mulberry harbours. Helen will also give students a Prick & Pounce demonstration. During the day you will have an opportunity to view the Overlord Embroidery.
The class kit must be bought from the tutor on the day for £25 (cash only) and will include everything you require to complete the project.
You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
The workshop runs from 10.45am to 4.45pm at The D-Day Story, Clarence Esplanade, Southsea, Hampshire PO5 3NT (please arrive by 10.30am).
