Please note this is an onsite class which will run from 10.30am-4.30pm at The D-Day Story, Portsmouth.

RSN Tutor, Helen Stevens will be teaching a bespoke Silk Shading embroidery class at The D-Day Story  on Friday 24 September 2021 as part of a series of classes to celebrate the Overlord Embroidery which was made by the RSN from 1968 to 1974.  The class is suitable for all levels with beginners welcome.

The class will adhere to current Covid-19 guidelines and the venue has undertaken a comprehensive risk assessment. The museum has achieved the Visit Britain 'Good to go' standard.

This simple daisy design is worked mainly in long and short stitch using 5 shades of coloured threads. Helen will show students how to blend these shades together to create the classic 3D appearance of painting with a needle. The daisy symbolizes new beginnings and is an apt motif to commemorate a new world era after the successful Allied Invasion of Normandy in June 1944. This class is suitable for those new to the technique and for more experienced stitchers.

Your class kit (included in the cost of the course)  will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

The workshop runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm at The D-Day Story, Clarence Esplanade, Southsea, Hampshire PO5 3NT (please arrive by 10.15am). You may want to bring a packed lunch and drinks. Please see important joining instructions for Portsmouth HERE

Class participants will also receive a free ticket for one visit to the museum, valid for 12 months from the date of the class they attend.
