RSN Tutor, Helen Stevens will be teaching a bespoke Appliqué embroidery online class on Friday 26 November 2021 as part of a series of classes to celebrate the Overlord Embroidery which was made by the RSN from 1968 to 1974.  The class is suitable for all levels with beginners welcome.

This stunning Anemone design features the same techniques used in the Overlord Embroidery panels. Vibrant layers of deep lilac and fuchsia silk dupion appliqued with couching stitches are used in combination with straight stitches to create the highlights and depths of the Anemone is the same way as used in the large panels.

In this class you will create additional surface stitches of long and short, stem stitch, French knots and the use of chenille thread and beads add the details.  Helen designed this Anemone de Caen flower motif as the city of Caen in Normandy played a major part in the D-Day offensive.

During a break in the class you will be joined by one of the Curators at the D-Day Story who will give exclusive insight into how the Overlord was designed and stitched. You will also be offered a complimentary pass to visit the museum within one year of the class if you able to visit.

Your class kit (included in the cost of the course)  will be posted out to you and will include everything you require to complete the project, but you will need to provide your own 6" or 8" ring frame and embroidery scissors. It would also be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes.

Your Zoom link will be sent a minimum of 48 hours prior to the class and will be sent to the email address you booked the class with. If you do not receive it, check your junk mail to see if it is there and if you still do not have it then please email [email protected]
