RSN Tutor, Kate Barlow will be teaching this hand embroidery class at Fashion Museum Bath on Saturday 25th April 2020. The class is suitable for all levels and has been inspired by a beautiful pair of embroidered silk boots dating from the 1870s.
Your embroidery will be worked in stranded silk threads on rich navy blue dupion silk to replicate the original decoration. Stem, split, long and short, satin and trellis stitches combine to produce a pretty design of scrolling flowers and leaves.
The boots will be part of a new shoe display in the Museum galleries opening at the end of March 2020. The class will begin with a viewing of the boots with a curator.
The class kit must be bought from the tutor on the day for £30 (cash only) and will include everything you require to complete the project.
You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
The workshop runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Fashion Museum, Assembly Rooms, Bennett Street, Bath BA1 2QH. All attendees must be comfortable climbing stairs. The class takes place in the Fashion Museum Study Facilities, which is on the first floor of the Assembly Rooms. The class includes a ticket to the Museum, valid for a month from the date of the class.
