RSN Tutor, Deborah Wilding will be teaching a bespoke embroidery class at Fashion Museum Bath on Saturday 1 June 2019. The class is suitable for all levels and is based on a Blackwork shirt.
You will be working on a design directly based on the motifs found on this historic Blackwork shirt dating from 1580-1600, one of the items on display in the History of Fashion in 100 Objects exhibition. This class is suitable for beginners as well as experienced stitchers and those with an interest in historic costume. The embroidery is in the Blackwork traditional style worked with black thread on a white linen fabric. Stitches include stem stitch, chain stitch and French knots.
The Blackwork shirt features in the exhibition A History of Fashion in 100 Objects at the Fashion Museum Bath. The class will begin with a viewing of the shirt in the Museum galleries with a curator.
The class kit must be bought from the tutor on the day for £30 (cash only) and will include everything you require to complete the project.
You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
The workshop runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Fashion Museum, Assembly Rooms, Bennett Street, Bath BA1 2QH. All attendees must be comfortable climbing stairs. The class takes place in the Fashion Museum Study Facilities, which is on the first floor of the Assembly Rooms. The class includes a ticket to the Museum, valid for a month from the date of the class.
