RSN Tutor, Kate Barlow will be teaching a bespoke embroidery class at Fashion Museum Bath on Saturday 15 June 2019. Inspired by a woman’s waistcoat embroidered with multi-coloured silk and gold threads, this class is suitable for all levels.
During the day you will recreate a section of a beautiful embroidered woman’s waistcoat circa 1615. Using silk and gold threads you will learn stitches including Elizabethan plaited braid stitch, ceylon and corded buttonhole needlelace and Elizabethan spiders webs.
The embroidered waistcoat features in the exhibition A History of Fashion in 100 Objects at the Fashion Museum Bath. The class will begin with a viewing of the waistcoat in the Museum galleries with a curator.
The class kit must be bought from the tutor on the day for £30 (cash only) and will include everything you require to complete the project.
You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
The workshop runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Fashion Museum, Assembly Rooms, Bennett Street, Bath BA1 2QH. All attendees must be comfortable climbing stairs. The class takes place in the Fashion Museum Study Facilities, which is on the first floor of the Assembly Rooms. The class includes a ticket to the Museum, valid for a month from the date of the class.
