RSN Tutor, Kate Barlow will be teaching a bespoke embroidery class at Fashion Museum Bath on Saturday 17 August 2019. Suitable for all levels, this class is inspired by a woman’s linen waistcoat embroidered with design of branches, birds and flowers worked in red, blue, green and brown threads, edged with mossy cotton fringe, 1700s.
During the day, Kate will demonstrate simple stitches to create the embroidered motifs. You will work stem stitch, chain stitch, long and short and french knots in stranded thread on fine linen fabric to reproduce this delightful bird with flowers.
The embroidered waistcoat features in the exhibition A History of Fashion in 100 Objects at the Fashion Museum Bath. The class will begin with a viewing of the waistcoat in the Museum galleries with a curator.
The class kit must be bought from the tutor on the day for £30 (cash only) and will include everything you require to complete the project.
You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
The workshop runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Fashion Museum, Assembly Rooms, Bennett Street, Bath BA1 2QH. All attendees must be comfortable climbing stairs. The class takes place in the Fashion Museum Study Facilities, which is on the first floor of the Assembly Rooms. The class includes a ticket to the Museum, valid for a month from the date of the class.
