Often referred to as ‘Painting with a Needle’, Silk Shading is achieved using a variety of Long and Short straight stitches and colour blending to create an almost photographic quality.
This one day introduction course will set you up with the basic skills needed to develop this beautiful technique while working this beautiful English garden bird. Taught in a small informal group, you will learn how to use Split Stitch, Long and Short Silk Shading and Satin Stitch using stranded cottons to create a charming garden bird design. You will also learn the theory behind what order to work the sections of the design in, what order to work the Split Stitch in and where it should be used for each area as you build up the design.
You will be advised and guided in how to finish off this cheeky chap with a place for him to sit.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
