Stumpwork or Raised Embroidery is a form of relief embroidery that was popular in the mid-17th Century. The designs for Stumpwork originate from printed pattern books, they were often scenes that included figures. These scenes would tell stories, commonly biblical or about the Royal family or a combination of both.
This two Day Class will introduce you to the basics of making a Stumpwork figure. You will learn how to make the padded body and face, Wrapped wired hands and clothing including the skate boots with fun 3-d laces. The figure is finished with a beautiful simple face, a fantastic hairstyle and funky ear muffs.
Previous experience of an Introduction to Stumpwork class would be helpful, but is not essential for this class.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
