Often referred to as ‘Painting with a Needle, Silk Shading is achieved using a variety of long and short straight stitches and colour blending to create an almost photographic quality.
Develop your skills in the beautiful embroidery technique of Silk Shading to create this charming harvest mouse design on a background of silk Dupion. You will use fine stranded cotton threads to delicately blend between colours and to build up the texture of fur. This design will introduce you to Split Stitch, Satin Stitch and Long and Short Stitch, all of which are essential when creating a piece of Silk Shading. You will also learn the theory behind the order to work a piece of Silk Shading embroidery, where Split Stitch should be used and how to create different textures.
This kit includes all of the threads, fabrics and needles required to complete this beautiful hand embroidery design.
This class would be most suitable for those who have tried Silk Shading before and wish to develop their skills.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
