This two day course will give the students the opportunity to develop their skills in the blackwork technique while working this beautiful stylised design based on the Mackintosh Rose. Blackwork is a historic technique that uses a variety of geometric stitches in one colour that enables dramatic effects to be created.
During the two days, you will learn how to work at least five different Blackwork stitch patterns in stranded cotton and machine thread. You will create shading throughout the design and will be introduced to working the patterns in colour including shades of one colour. You will be shown how to create details with Surface Embroidery Stitches and add a final highlight when you are introduced to a small amount of silver metal thread.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
