This two day course is inspired by a beautiful and fun piece of Raised Embroidery in the RSN Collection. Over two days we will consider the materials, stitches and threads that were used in the 17th century to create Raised Embroidery. You will stitch the “Oak Tree” using traditional approaches where possible. The course will include Wired Shapes, Padded Shapes, Needlelace Stitches, Long and Short Stitch. In addition, you will learn some little known stitches that give an amazing textural finish and are fun to work such as Moss Stitch and Chenille Stitch. This course will appeal to those who are interested in historical stitch and its modern application along with those who wish to extend their stitch repertoire.
There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
All the stitches covered in this class and more can be found on the RSN Stitchbank.
