Punto Antico (“Antique Stitch”) is a form of Italian Embroidery which dates back to the 15th century. It is a style of counted thread embroidery combined with cutwork that is often combined with other styles of Italian needlelace techniques. Often the whole surface of the fabric would be covered in stitching. The class will start with the Satin stitch motifs, before removing some fabric threads to form the openwork area, which will then be decorated with further stitching. The design will be stitched on white linen with white threads.
Some experience of counted thread techniques - such as cross stitch - is not essential but would be useful for this class.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
