Join RSN Tutor Kate Barlow as she takes you through the basics of Silk Shading stitching this historic inspired posy. This embroidery is inspired by two beautiful panels held in the Royal School of Needlework collection. Dating from the 1740s, the ribbed ivory fabric is embroidered with stunning silk shaded flowers and plants, tiny chain stitches in gold thread, silk chenille and spangles. The panels would have originally been part of a ‘sack back’ gown, a style of dress that had a pleated back panel of fabric hanging from the wearers shoulders to form a slight train. The embroidery uses stranded silk and gilt threads to recreate the pretty flowers in silk shading. The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
