Back to the basics of Silk Shading, a technique that at first appears easy but needs thoughtful preparation and plenty of practice.
Sometimes known as ‘painting with needle’, Silk Shading requires a sense of colour to achieve a beautiful end product, so we will discuss design: a colour drawing, a shaded drawing, a stitch direction and an order of work before we start to stitch; ensuring a good result.
Then you will create a beautiful viola, using an image taken from the Royal School of Needlework Archive.
By the end of the class, you will understand and have practiced the fundamentals of Silk Shading. All levels of stitchers are welcome.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run from 10am-4pm at The Storey, Meeting House Lane, Lancaster, LA1 1TH
