Please note that this is an online class, taken from home.

Our theme for this class is drawing flowers, which are historically such an important subject for embroiderers and artists. You will be able to proceed at your own pace, in a non-judgemental and supportive atmosphere. Guided by Caroline, prior to the class you’ll collect flowers and plants from what you have available at home or can collect outdoors. Dandelions, daisies and dead nettles are as interesting and beautiful as more exotic garden flowers.

We will be focussing on how to observe closely and draw what you see, both in colour and black and white. There will be some fun warm-up drawing exercises. We’ll study a selection of flowers closely, learning how to see shapes and structures, make tonal drawings and then venture into colour.

This is for anyone who wants to investigate flowers more closely and build their visual understanding, learn or practise their skills of drawing from close observation. You do not need to feel confident about drawing

Structure of the day: Login in using the link provided beforehand ready to start at 10. We will have breaks around 11a.m. and for lunch between 1-2. If you want direct feedback on your work from Caroline, share your photos with her via WhatsApp or email during the day.

Materials.

Please gather together whatever art materials you have. These are what we recommend:

  • A good quality paperback A4 sketchbook
  • B and 2B graphite pencils.
  • a tin of at least 12 good quality colour pencils. Water soluble will give you more options.
  • Round and flat brushes and waterpots.
  • Fine drawing pen. Could be a biro, fountain pen or fibre-tip pen.

This class will run online on Saturday 11 July from 10am-4pm with a 15-minute break in the morning plus an hour for lunch.

Bookings for this class will close on at 5pm on  Friday 3 July.
