Please note that this is an online class, taken from home. This class will run online on Thursday 6 August from 7pm-9pm UK BST.

Try two techniques to create this charming leaf spray; Silk Shading and Needlewoven Picots, each giving a different texture and height to the piece.

This opportunity will allow you to try Long and Short Stitch to work through graduating shades of threads, giving the sense of depth. To add a contrasting texture, the outside leaves will be worked in Detached Needlewoven Picots which can be placed, after working, in a way that each piece will take on its own identity. The final touch will be a cluster of beads to represent berries.

These two techniques, although both steeped in history, are now combined to produce a more contemporary approach to this charming leaf spray. Needlewoven Picots, are associated with Raised Embroidery/Stumpwork, but can historically be found in other techniques such as Drawn Thread Embroidery, Reticella Lace and Casalguidi Embroidery.

This delightful spray can be worked in different colourways to represent the seasons and can be added to home interior items such as the corner of a cushion or a napkin. Alternatively it can be added to a garment such as a pocket or lapel or even onto a handbag or headband.

The finished design measures 8cm x 8cm (WxH)

There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions and in advance of the class all preparation information will be emailed to you along with an invitation to join the class on the day.

The class kit will be posted out to you. The kit includes all the materials you require to complete the project. It would be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes and a pair of embroidery scissors  and a 6" hoop will be needed.
