Please note that this is an online class, taken from home. This class will run online on for five consecutive Sundays' from 9am-11am UK BST.  The classes will run from Sunday 20 September to Sunday 18 October.

Bookings for this class have now closed to allow for kit delivery.

Please note that the cost includes the necessary kit but does not include shipping, which will be added automatically at the checkout.

In this class you will learn how to stitch with beautiful silk threads in autumn hues, using one part of the technique known as ‘silk shading’.  You will also get to try gorgeous metal threads in gold and copper, using a variety of threads and wires to bring life to the leaves.

Today we usually use cotton threads for silk shading, because they come in a wide range of colours.  In this class we will go back to one the most traditional threads - floss (or flat) silk - which is a bundle of silk fibres, barely twisted together.  These fibres lay flat and smooth on the fabric, giving a beautiful gloss to the embroidery.

The tutor will demonstrate to the group, and give plenty of individual attention to each student allowing you to develop your embroidery skills. The class is suitable for beginners to these techniques or more experienced stitchers who wish to try their hand at stitching with real silk and gold threads.

The class is broken into two hour sessions to allow plenty of time to learn and try each part of the design.

Session 1 Sunday 20 September: Silk first leaf and start second

Session 2 Sunday 27 September: Continue second leaf and start third

Session 3 Sunday 4 October: Complete third leaf

Session 4 Sunday 11 October: Couch pearl purl and millary wire

Session 5 Sunday 18 October: Couch check thread, twist and smooth passing, plunging and tying back
