Term Two will run on ten consecutive Tuesdays between January 2021 and March 2021 at 7:30pm-9:30pm UK local time.
Join Jacqui McDonald, RSN tutor and the author of the RSN Essential Stitch Guide to Crewelwork, as she introduces you to all the major Crewelwork stitches. Crewelwork is a traditional form of surface embroidery worked on linen using a two-ply Crewel wool giving the name Crewelwork. Also sometimes referred to as Jacobean, it rose to the height of fashion during the reign of King James I — the British Jacobean period — and most examples are stitched in the Jacobean style with bold and exotic stylised foliage, insects and animals.
The course is aimed at the beginner embroiderer and runs over three terms (of ten weeks each). Fees are termly and decrease with each term you take if you pre-book: £300 first term, £270 second term and £240 third term. You do not need to attend all three terms. Any spaces not taken up in terms two and three will be made available to new people at a cost of £300 per term.
Please note that if you book on this page you are only booking Term Two.
Jacqui will meet you online between 7.30 and 9.30 pm UK time to introduce you to a different stitch each week. She will show you how to produce and perfect each stitch before showing you variations on how you might later use that stitch within a design. Each week as we delve into each stitch, you will also be able to have an exciting peek into the beautiful RSN collection of historic embroidery pieces to see different examples of that weeks stitch and how other embroiderers have interpreted that stitch within past designs.
The tools and material can be obtained through the RSN or this would be a great opportunity to use up your own stash. You will need a 24" slate frame/24" hand rotating frame both of which can be purchased via the RSN Shop
The course will be open to just 15 students, so during the two hours online Jacqui will be on hand whilst you practice your technique on your own sampler.
By the end of each term you should have a sampler of 10 stitches and their variations, if you complete all three terms, by the end of the course you should have your own sampler of over 30 stitches and their variations. This will be a great resource for further development as well as an ornate piece to treasure.
