This embroidery design is inspired by a woman’s waistcoat, circa 1615, held in the collection at the Fashion Museum in Bath. Made of linen and embroidered with silk and metal threads, the waistcoat is said to have belonged to Lady Alice L’Estrange. It would have been worn informally with a skirt known as a petticoat or kirtle, and with a loose gown over the top. In the class you will recreate this little dragonfly using Corded Buttonhole and Ceylon Needlelaces worked in beautiful twisted silk threads on a linen ground fabric. He is decorated with Chain Stitching and Elizabethan Spiders Webs worked in Gilt Passing thread and sits on a branch of Elizabethan Braid again worked with passing thread. Final details are added with Stem and Thorn stitches. Suitable for intermediate and advanced stitchers,.
There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions and in advance of the class all preparation information will be emailed to you along with an invitation to join the class on the day.
The class kit will be posted out to you. Your kit includes everything you need including a full colour, step by step instruction booklet. The only things you’ll need are an 8” ring frame and embroidery scissors. It would be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes.
