The iconic Strawberry Thief design was first produced in 1883 and was inspired by William Morris’s observation of the thrushes creeping under the strawberry nets to steal the fruit in the garden of his Oxfordshire home, Kelmscott Manor.
It remains one of his most popular designs today and as a result of a collaborative project between the Tutor and the William Morris Society we are able to share this class. Now you can have your own little piece of the pattern in the form of a Strawberry brooch or decoration made with delicious metal threads in red, gold, pink and blues.
In this 2-session Metal Thread embroidery class, you will learn stitches including Couching, Cutwork Loops and Pearl Purl edges, and finish it off with 3D Silk Purl leaves in the blue of the original Morris print. Once complete the embroidery will be cut out, backed and made into a decorative hanging or brooch measuring approximately 3.5×5.5cm.
The kit will be sent to you prior to the class and will include base fabric, all threads, a small wooden hoop, beeswax and an illustrated instruction booklet.
This class is suitable for all levels.
There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions and in advance of the class all preparation information will be emailed to you along with an invitation to join the class on the day.
Your Zoom link will be sent a minimum of 48 hours prior to the class and will be sent to the email address you booked the class with. If you do not receive it, check your junk mail to see if it is there and if you still do not have it then please email [email protected]
