Sunday 15 & 22 May 2022

For UK and Europe bookings will close on Friday 6 May to allow for the kit to be posted out in time for the class.

Please note that the cost includes the necessary kit and tracked postage.

This two day class is perfect if it is your first time trying Blackwork, or your first time stitching anything! The class will be split over two sessions to allow for time to stitch at your own pace in between.

The piece is inspired by the Dutch Delftware tiles of the early 17th Century. The tiles usually depict motifs of animals, flowers and mythological beasts as well as rural or coastal scenes of everyday life featuring farm labourers, windmills, fishermen and sailing boats. the tiles were often used to brighten fireplaces, or to decorate bathing rooms or kitchens. Worked in blue glaze on a white background, this very distinctive style is perfect for translating into shaded Blackwork.

Worked on Edinburgh Linen, in three shades of blue, with a touch of gold, students will create shading by breaking down stitches and working with different threads, as well as learning a variety of Surface Stitches such as Back Stitch, Chain Stitch, Whipped Chain Stitch and French Knots.

There will be plenty of opportunity during the class to ask the Tutor questions and in advance of the class all preparation information will be emailed to you along with an invitation to join the class on the day.

Your Zoom link will be sent a minimum of 48 hours prior to the class and will be sent to the email address you booked the class with. If you do not receive it, check your junk mail to see if it is there and if you still do not have it then please email [email protected]

The class kit will be posted out to you. The kit includes all the materials you require to complete the project. It would be useful to have a pencil and paper in case you wish to take extra notes and a pair of embroidery scissors  and an 8" hoop will be needed.

All the stitches covered in this class and more can be found on the RSN Stitchbank.
