We are delighted to offer this beautiful fine crewel wool by Renaissance Dyeing, a small artisanal family business working out of two converted barns in the foothills of the Pyrénées in France, where they hand dye and wind the yarns.
This range of 27 shades are hand dyed using the mordants and natural dyes that were available in the 16th Century, hence their name Elizabethan. The yarn is spun especially for them in Biella, Italy using a 24/2 worsted, 100% fine grade merino lambswool, which gives a wonderful handle, subtle sheen and a resistance to thinning and “fluffing”.
We are one of the few stockists in the UK, using this embroidery thread will take your Jacobean and crewelwork to the next level. Supplied in 25m skeins by single shade or as a complete set of the 27 shades Elizabethan range.
We also stock four of their artists selections, based on paintings by Matisse and Cèzanne.
