Your day at the Royal School of Needlework will include The Embroidered Home Exhibition Tour plus a half day taster embroidery class and kit.
In the morning you will see the exhibition. The tour will last for 1.5 hours (seating is available) and begins with an illustrated lecture from a member of staff or tutor, giving historical context and information about the Royal School of Needlework. The Tour then takes place for the final hour when our volunteer guides will show you around the exhibition in our working Studio rooms.
In the afternoon you will join RSN Tutor, Auburn Claire Lucas, who will guide you through stitching a pretty posy motif inspired by a Victorian letter holder from the RSN Collection which you will see in our exhibition.
This design will be worked on a bright red felt. The threads will be a mixture of silk perle and stranded cotton. The large blue flower will be stitched in French knots and the tendrils are stem stitch. The leaves and pink flower will be worked in satin stitch. (Final motif to follow).
The Tour will start at 11am (please meet outside the main entrance of Hampton Court Palace at 10.40am) and finish at 12.30pm and the class will run from 1.30-4pm.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU
