Your day at the Royal School of Needlework will include The Embroidered Home Exhibition Tour plus a half day taster embroidery class and kit.
In the morning you will see the exhibition. The tour will last for 1.5 hours (seating is available) and begins with an illustrated lecture from a member of staff or tutor, giving historical context and information about the Royal School of Needlework. The Tour then takes place for the final hour when our volunteer guides will show you around the exhibition in our working Studio rooms.
In the afternoon you will join RSN Tutor, Auburn Claire Lucas, who will guide you through stitching this stunning floral motif inspired by a tablecloth from the RSN Collection which you will see in our exhibition.
You will be working on cream silk using stranded cotton threads. The Poppy and Daisy outlines will be worked in shaded Button-hole stitch and the flower centres will be worked in French Knots and Pistol stitches. You will also learn Lazy Daizy stitches for the wheat and Stem stitch for the leaf and stems.
The Tour will start at 11am (please meet outside the main entrance of Hampton Court Palace at 10.40am) and finish at 12.30pm and the class will run from 1.30-4pm.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU
