Your day at the Royal School of Needlework will include Faces & Figures Exhibition Tour plus a half day taster embroidery class and kit.
In the morning you will see the exhibition. The tour will last for 1.5 hours (seating is available) and begins with an illustrated lecture from a member of staff or tutor, giving historical context and information about the Royal School of Needlework. The Tour then takes place for the final hour when our volunteer guides will show you around the exhibition in our working Studio rooms.
In the afternoon you will join RSN Tutor, Sarah Smith, who will guide you through stitching this beautiful Winter Flower and Sprig design of hellebores, berries and spruce on to a linen napkin. (A pale grey or cream napkin will be provided as part of your kit).
Inspired by Sarah’s popular Winter Flower Wreath, this Taster class will teach students new to the art of embroidery, how with just a few simple stitches, delicate floral designs can be created and used to embellish clothes, napkins, table cloths and cushions. During the afternoon, students will be introduced to stitches including: Stem Stitch, Satin Stitch, French Knots, Pistil Stitch and Long and Short Stitch.
The Tour will start at 11am (please meet outside the main entrance of Hampton Court Palace at 10.40am) and finish at 12.30pm and the class will run from 1.30-4pm.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU
