The RSN Degree team encourage students to submit applications for a number of competitions and sponsorship opportunities during the three-year course, one of which being the Bradford Textile Society Annual Design Competition.
For this year’s competition, we were delighted to see that four RSN students won awards for their work, as well as several other students receiving commendations for their work.
The LAPA Charitable Trust Award
1st Prize – Second year Degree student Izzy Ager
“‘Decorative flora’ was inspired by the floral ceramics found in the Victoria and Albert Museum collection. I worked with the drawings I had compiled from my sketchbook, playing around with different symmetrical patterns and compositions on photoshop and I used tambour and Goldwork techniques, as well as 3D embroidery such as Raisedwork and Fabric manipulation also.

As a practitioner I have always been inspired by nature, more specifically unique and unusual flora. I am fascinated in creating movement and height with my embroidery, as well as bringing in sparkle to my work. ”
2nd Place – 2024 Degree Graduate Rosie Sykes
“I’m so grateful to have been awarded 2nd place for the Bradford Textile Society Award.
It was fun to create designs showing how I would interpret my drawings and samples in a fashion based format and I’m so appreciative that they liked my work! I love working with a vintage look/feel, and I’m glad I got to represent this in my entry!”
3rd Place – Second year Degree student Charlotte Farrant
“I feel very proud to have received 3rd prize in the Bradford textile competition. This concept interiors piece was focused on exploring textures found in fungus and barnacles in its purest form, without the distraction of colour, and focuses on my favourite form of embroidery – creating sculpture predominantly using goldwork techniques and fabric manipulation.”
The Clothworkers’ Company Award
1st place – 2024 Degree Graduate Fleur Webb
‘With the decadence of goldwork and tambour techniques and the structure raised work embroidery provides, I investigate the beauty, fear and unknown of the deep-sea in a way science cannot, through imaginative, contemporary hand embroidery.’
We would also like to congratulate RSN Degree students on their fantastic achievements in receiving commendations for their work:
