This is a recording of a live event held on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 August 2025.

The Royal School of Needlework held its first ever conference, Stitched Together: Needlework Research and Making, at Hampton Court Palace on Thursday 21 August and Friday 22 August 2025, supported by the Pasold Research Fund.

Though needlework has long been the subject of academic, socioeconomic, and object-centric study, there have been very few opportunities for those who create needlework and those who research needlework to collaborate and learn from one another. This conference bridged the gap between visual and historiographical analysis and knowledge of the historical, socioeconomic, and literary contexts of needlework with embodied knowledge of materials, techniques, and artistic choices. ‘Stitched Together’ was a meeting place for those working on topics related to historical embroidery and to present their work and research.
