RSN Embroidery Studio & The Red Carpet

22nd March, 2019

In February, the RSN Embroidery Studio had the pleasure of working again with the influential organisation Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD).   Red Carpet Green Dress is an internationally recognised organisation that combines the worlds of fashion and sustainability, promoting the importance of more eco-friendly practices in fashion.

Experts in our Embroidery Studio first worked with the organisation in 2013, embroidering the stunning ‘Lava Dress’ worn by James Bond ‘Skyfall’ actress Naomie Harris to the Oscars in the same year.

This time, our Embroidery Studio was asked to design an item for a special auction to celebrate RCGD’s 10th anniversary.  Our expert stitchers designed and hand embroidered a dazzling brooch and cufflink set, taking inspiration from the beautiful ‘Lava Dress’.

To create the brooch and cufflink set, we combined gold metal thread techniques, overstretched purl purl, very fine passing and spangles.  Both pieces were embellished with vintage beads and sequins that had been donated. They were then embroidered onto a silk habotai fabric.

Actress, environmental advocate, educator and wife of director James Cameron, Suzy Amis Cameron founded Red Carpet Green Dress in 2009 and works with internationally acclaimed designers each year to dress stars in ethical formal wear and jewellery for the Academy Awards.  The sustainable fashion campaign sets the challenge for creatives, emerging and established designers worldwide to create a Red Carpet worthy dress or tuxedo, from environmentally and socially responsible fabrics – thus fulfilling the Green Dress criteria.

Our Embroidery Studio works on new commissions, restoration and conservation. All our work is done by hand in our Studio at Hampton Court Palace.
