Massive congratulations to RSN Degree Graduate, Laura Baverstock who has been admitted as a Trade Freeman to the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers. At the age of just 24, she is the youngest person to join as a Trade Freeman in the company’s over 300 year history!
Laura said: “I am so pleased to be accepted and honoured to be the youngest Trade Freeman. I specialised in Goldwork during my final major project in my third year; which is a particular favourite technique of mine, and to be a part of the company that recognises and continually promotes this traditional craft is a great honour.
“Since Graduating in June this year, to become a Freeman of the Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers and to also now be working on a very special film project, has been hugely exciting and a great beginning to life in the working world.”
The ceremony with the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers took place in October at Trinity House in Tower Hill. This was not the first time the Worshipful Company had met Laura. She received their award for Best Metal Threadwork at the end of her second year in 2015 and attended the company’s Summer Court, showcasing a selection of her work.

The Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers maintains the traditions and customs of the City of London and supports the Lord Mayor and Corporation in promoting the status and the image of the City. Gold and silver wire and gold thread continues to be used for embroidering badges, banners, vestments, and gold braid on service uniforms and University Chancellors’ gowns.
