Julia Triston

Julia Triston is a maker, author and educator in stitched textiles, contemporary art and design techniques. She has been teaching in the creative industries for more than thirty years and has always had a passion for stitching, creating artworks and installations from upcycled items. Julia’s raw materials include vintage lace, reclaimed household linen, second-hand garments, old uniforms and previously worn underwear. Her current practice investigates the themes of identity, gender and sustainability.

Julia achieved a Distinction for her MA in Contemporary Applied Arts and has researched and co-authored two popular Batsford books: ‘How to be Creative in Textile Art’ and ‘Contemporary Appliqué’.

Julia has taught on our Degree Course and Future Tutors programme.  She will be teaching a series of Day Classes at our Durham satellite
