Matthew Cayton

Before coming to the Royal School of Needlework, Matthew gained a BA Hons in acting from Rose Bruford, before going on to qualify and work as a primary school teacher for several years. Matthew has always loved hand embroidery and discovered the RSN while recovering from a hip replacement. Looking for a career change Matthew first enrolled on the C & D programme and in 2018 joined the Future Tutor programme.

In 2019 Matthew was awarded a scholarship by the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust.

During the course he has assisted teaching on RSN Day Classes, Family Stitch workshops and on the Summer Intensive Certificate & Diploma programme at Hampton Court Palace as well as workshops at the Knitting and Stitching show in Alexandra Palace.

He graduated from the Future Tutor Programme in July 2020 and is very much looking forward to teaching his own classes as well as sharing his enthusiasm and passion for hand embroidery.

In 2023, Matthew was honoured to be part of the Embroidery Studio team at the Royal School of Needlework who worked on a number of items for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, including The Queen’s Robe of Estate, the Anointing Screen and the Stole Royal.
