Arrival

Arrival time for new starters at reception: 9.45am .

Please come to Hampton Court Palace Reception as we collect all new Jacobean starters together at 9.45am and escort you into the Palace. Arrive promptly to ensure you have time to complete Palace Security procedures.

You can download a map to Reception here.

Note: If you already have a security pass and know the location of your classroom, you can access the classroom from 9.30am.

Public Transport

The easiest way to plan your journey is using Transport For London’s journey planner. By train the nearest station is Hampton Court. Kingston station is close and there are buses (111, 216 or 411) from outside Kingston station (other side of the road and to the right when exiting the station) which stop outside the palace.

By Car

Paid parking is available on Hampton Court Green, located 500 meters away in front of the palace, or at Hampton Court train station, which is a short walk (200 metres) to the entrance of the palace.

Security

The palace being a public building has a security system in place.   This means that all students attending for C&D courses on a regular basis need a security pass.  For those students we know are attending for the first time we send out an email requesting basic information and a photo.  This is sent to the HCP security department who issue a pass which can then be collected from the security office on arrival at the palace.  The pass ( which fits in a lanyard) should be worn while on the premises.   For one off or short duration visits by students to HCP there is a system of day passes in operation.   The passes last up to 2 years and can be renewed.   You should send an e mail reminder to [email protected] if your pass is approaching the end of its life.

Tuition Timing

The teaching day at Hampton Court is:

Arrival time for new starters at reception: 9.45am .

Start time: 10.00am

Finish time: 4.00pm.

Refreshments

On the days that the palace is open (check the Hampton Court Palace website for opening days)  there are several cafes on site.  They are usually very busy and sometimes have long queues so you may prefer to bring your own food and drink.  Though we do not provide refreshments we do provide a refreshment room.   Drinks should be in closable containers to avoid spills, so no open cans please.

No food or drink is permitted in the classrooms.

You may also wish to bring:

A general sewing kit including scissors, a notebook, tape measure and small ruler is always useful but not essential.

If you require a light or magnifier, please bring this with you or alternatively these will be available with a refundable deposit.

Assessment Process

Our assessment process is carried out on finalisation of each of your embroidery techniques. This is done three times a year during the Easter, Summer and Christmas breaks. Completed pieces of work must be submitted with all associated paperwork including stitch plans, tonal drawings, design source, original photographs and any other relevant paperwork you feel will help the Assessor understand your choices. Please keep these documents safe in your student folder throughout your tuition and your piece must be clearly named including the paperwork.

Note: Failure to include all relevant paperwork could result in loss of marks and possible postponement to the next Assessment slot.

If you are a new student then you can also sign up to one of our open days.
