Learn a traditional Silk Shading and Raised Embroidery technique working a bunny tentatively looking out of his hiding place. Surrounded by 3D stitched magic flowers and grass he is curious about what is happening on the other side of the picture frame.
Following tutor’s step-by-step instructions practice stitching plants and creating gradual and smooth colour shading using stranded cotton threads. Learn about common mistakes in thread painting, and practice split stitch, as well as long and short stitch on silk fabric and over felt padding. Find out how to make stitching look flowing without any visible boundaries between colours, and how to make stitched edges look crisp and neat. Make 3D elements using fine wire and practice filling wired shapes with embroidery and edging them with beads.
During the class you will see demonstrations of all required techniques, as well as get individual attention from the tutor allowing you to develop your skills at your own pace. The tutor will also show how to work with two hands and a few embroidery needles at the same time to speed up your work, so you could practice that as well. This class is best taken if you have some prior embroidery experience.
