The Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery is a prestigious, global competition for aspiring embroidery artists, judged by an esteemed independent judging panel of industry professionals.
This year, we are pleased to share that four RSN Degree Graduates have made it as finalists, and will have their work on display in November.
Student Textile Art Category
Fleur Webb – ‘Thalassophobia’
‘After graduating from the Royal School of Needlework with my degree in hand embroidery, becoming a Hand and Lock Prize finalist is an incredible next step!
My entry for The Prize, Thalassophobia, has drawn inspiration from the deep sea, a realm of profound depth and layered complexity. The Midnight Zone, spanning 1,000 to 4,000 meters below the surface, houses creatures that have adapted to its harsh conditions. With no sunlight penetrating, this oceanic layer lies in pitch darkness meaning our creatures of the deep have evolved to create their own light, their own bioluminescence.’
Imogen Campbell – ‘Groundbreaking Debut Album’
‘Above all else I’m really excited to be a finalist, whether I win or not! To have so much attention given to embroidery shows how important it is to continue practicing it and protecting the craft.
I’m also so excited to see my RSN friends again who are also finalists, and maybe others who visit the exhibition as well!’

Amy Turner – ‘Pestilence’
‘I’m so excited to have been announced as a finalist! I feel so incredibly honoured to have gotten this far and I can’t wait to see my fellow RSN friends who are finalists too! I want to wish all others finalists good luck and can’t wait to see all the work on display.’
Rosie Sykes – ‘Camera Obscura’
‘It’s so exciting to be a finalist in the student Fashion category for the Hand and Lock prize. I absolutely loved working on my piece, getting to tell a story through my embroidery, alongside working with vintage clothing.
This is such a prestigious award and I’m very grateful to be a finalist! I’m really looking forward to the exhibition, and I’m glad others from my year will be there with me!’
We would like to wish all of the finalists the best of luck for the prize final in November!, and cannot wait to see all of the beautiful work on display.
