Goldwork has always been reserved for the most exceptional pieces. Gold thread comes in a variety of weights and thicknesses. The RSN has been responsible for the design and embroidery of coronation regalia for every British monarch from Edward VII to our current Queen, our Patron. Her Majesty's coronation train was worked in 18 varieties of gold thread by a team of 12 embroiderers around the clock for three months. In 2010 we conserved the Lord Chancellor's ceremonial purse. Embroidered by the RSN in 1984 the purse is used to carry the Queen's Speech in procession at each State Opening of Parliament and on other state occasions.
