We are never surprised by the range of requests that come through the door of our Embroidery Studio at Hampton Court Palace. We have been, and will always be, very diverse. This is one of the things that makes our Embroidery Studio so special and different to other organisations who tend to specialise in one area of textiles.

Back in the summer, we were commissioned to embroider 15 door hangers for a country club that were hosting a large number of very special guests for several weeks. Each door hanger featured an uplifting quote, accompanied by flowers and foliage. The quotes included:

“Sometimes… the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.” By A.A. Milne

“A little magic can take you a long way.” By Roald Dahl

The lettering was transferred onto the background linen and stitched in Stem Stitch. The accompanying flowers were stitched free hand by our skilled embroiderers, as though working on a blank canvas. This allowed them to feel their way and put a little of themselves into each one. They were all made up with a rigid inner to protect them against wear and tear, and finished off with a hand twisted cord and delightful mini tassel.

It was such a fun project to work on, and it prompted lots of discussion with our team of embroiderers debating their favourite quotes. What is your favourite quote?
