Rebecca Quine

Becky has always been passionate about needlework and graduated from the RSN Future Tutor Programme after a successful career in Administration. During her time studying at the RSN she has embraced all opportunities to expand her knowledge, experience different techniques and develop a new skill base. She has participated in several high profile RSN projects including the Naomie Harris Oscar Dress and, following her Graduation (with Distinction); she has continued to work in the Studio whilst developing her own portfolio of Day Classes.

She currently teaches Day Classes for the RSN across the UK and for our debut outing in Ireland as well as on the Certificate & Diploma in both the UK and the United States and Bespoke Classes. She has also taught on the Degree Programme, the BA (Hons) in Hand Embroidery for Fashion, Interiors, Textile Art. In 2023, Becky was honoured to be part of the Embroidery Studio team at the Royal School of Needlework who worked on a number of items for the Coronation.

Sally Randle

After completing the RSN Certificate and some Diploma subjects Sally decided to take her love of embroidery to the next level by moving from Australia to the UK in 2019 to study full time and complete the Royal School of Needlework Future Tutors programme.

During her training in the U.K. she taught classes at Knitting and Stitching shows in London and Harrogate, she demonstrated embroidery at RSN sponsored events, and had her work included in exhibitions. Sally was also a finalist in the Hand & Lock Prize for Embroidery in 2022. Sally graduated from the RSN Future Tutors Programme in 2022.  She was honoured to be part of the Embroidery Studio team at the Royal School of Needlework who worked on the Anointing Screen for the Coronation of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Sally returned to Australia in 2023 and established an embroidery studio Satellite for the RSN in Brisbane, Australia. Sally teaches both in person and online RSN classes from her studio.

Sara-Jane Dennis

After a career in nursing and the forces, Sara gained a first-class degree in Art History and Museum Studies from Lancaster University. She graduated Royal School of Needlework Future Tutor Programme in 2017 winning the Outstanding Achievement Award. Having led a peripatetic life, she has collected many experiences and influences. Now settling in Lancaster, she remains drawn towards the ethnic and eclectic.

As well as Day Classes, the Certificate and Diploma, Summer Intensive Certificate and Degree modules at Hampton Court Palace and Williamsburg, USA for The Royal School of Needlework, Sara has also taught at the Victoria & Albert Museum, The British Library and The Royal Free Hospital. She holds weekly and occasional class in Lancaster and was the textile expert on The Repair Shop (BBC 1) 2018- 23. Sara enjoys curating various exhibitions and volunteers at Lancaster Priory. She has a studio in Lancaster Castle from where she hopes to continue to develop and teach.

Sarah de Rousset-Hall

Sarah graduated from the RSN’s Future Tutors programme in 2020, and has since worked as a freelance hand embroiderer as Sarah Stitches.

Sarah teaches regularly for the Royal School of Needlework, both online and in person including the Certificate & Diploma, Day Classes and International Summer Schools. She also teaches privately and accepts commissions.

In 2021, Sarah became a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Broderers.

In 2023, Sarah was honoured to be part of the Embroidery Studio team at the Royal School of Needlework who worked on a number of items for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, including The Queen’s Robe of Estate, the Anointing Screen and the Stole Royal.

Sarah Homfray

Sarah graduated from the Royal School of Needlework Apprenticeship in 2006 with Distinction and went on to teach the RSN apprentices and the Certificate and Diploma, freelance teaching and private commissions. Sarah worked as part of the RSN team that created the embellishment for the wedding dress for HRH The Princess of Wales, and has worked on a variety of private commissions including making the replica standard of the 105th Regiment for the Battle of Waterloo 200 year commemorations in 2015. Sarah has travelled extensively including living in Cyprus for a year where she gained a Diploma in Fine Art as well as leading textile tours to Rajasthan and Gujarat in India. Sarah has been published in magazines, wrote ‘RSN Essential Stitch Guide – Silk Shading‘ (Search Press 2011) and contributed to ‘Embroidery: A maker’s guide’ from the V&A Museum (Thames Hudson 2017). Sarah currently runs a widely popular and successful YouTube channel with worldwide viewership, Sarah Homfray Embroidery.

Sarah Smith

Sarah joined the Royal School of Needlework’s Future Tutors programme following a career in publishing and a three-year City and Guilds Certificate in Embroidery.

As well as working in the RSN’s Embroidery Studio. Sarah has taught in the UK, Ireland and China, as well as at RSN workshops at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Courtauld Gallery and Buckingham Palace in London and at Ely Cathedral.  She has been involved in a variety of RSN projects, including The Hardhome Embroidery produced for HBO’s Game of Thrones television drama series; and work for an evening gown designed by Nicholas Oakwell Couture for the GREAT Britain campaign. Her work has been displayed at the Philip Mould Gallery in London and in 2023, Sarah was honoured to be part of the Embroidery Studio team at the Royal School of Needlework who worked on the Anointing Screen and chairs for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Shelley Cox

Shelley graduated in 1998 and immediately began working in the RSN Studio. She also started teaching short courses for West Dean and private groups. In 2001, Shelley left the Studio and began working privately from home before establishing her own studio in East Sussex, where she now runs her own classes. She continues to work on special projects, teach, and assess for the RSN, as well as other private groups. In addition to teaching regular embroidery subjects, Shelley has a particular interest in miniature embroidery, quilting, and beadwork. She is also the author of the RSN Essential Guide to Beadwork.

Sonia Lee

Sonia graduated from the Royal School of Needlework’s (RSN) Future Tutor’s Programme (FTP) in 2022. Since then, she has set up exhibitions, taught learning curve classes, and demonstrated fine hand embroidery at the Knitting and Stitching Shows in London and Harrogate, at the Fashion and Textile Museum and at The Sunbury Embroidery Gallery.
She has taught RSN Day Classes at Hampton Court Palace (HCP) and Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland, as well as the Certificate & Diploma Programme, including Summer Intensive courses. She has led family drop-in sessions at the Guildhall Art Gallery, the Turner Contemporary Museum, and Hillsborough Castle. Sonia’s work has been featured in RSN exhibitions at HCP and the Sunbury Embroidery Gallery, and was selected for the Broderers’ Exhibition in 2022

Sonia Galsworthy

Sonja joined the RSN as an apprentice in 1991 at 16 and graduated in 1994. She then became a freelance embroiderer for Watts & Co church furnishers and took private commissions, most notably for milliner Philip Treacy on his Black Galleon Ship hat
Sonja returned to the RSN to work in the studio in 2013 and then qualified as a teacher in 2014. She now teaches embroidery for Surrey Adult Learning as well as day classes for the RSN
In 2020, Sonja was awarded The Beryl Dean Award for Teaching Excellence in Embroidery. The judges were impressed at her passion for inspiring the next generation of young embroiderers. In 2021, Sonja helped inspire school children around the UK to take up stitching by creating a series of videos for the RSN’s schools project ‘Embroider a Selfie’.
In 2023, Sonja was part of the Embroidery Studio team at the RSN who worked on the many Coronation projects including The Queen’s Robe of Estate, the Anointing Screen, Chairs of State and the Stole Royal.

Sue Kim

Sue is an RSN tutor and full-time embroiderer based in Surrey, UK. She studied footwear design at the London College of Fashion and graduated from Sookmyung University in Seoul with a textile and metal crafts degree. She graduated from the RSN’s Future Tutor Programme with distinction and received the RSN Broderers’ Award for Top Student in 2024. During the Future Tutors Programme, Sue’s works were featured in the Treasures of Gold and Silver Wire exhibition at Guildhall Art Gallery in London and in the Knitting Stitching show in London and Harrogate in 2022 and 2023. Sue taught Learning Curve classes for the RSN at the Knitting and Stitching Show in 2022 and 2023, the Stitch Festival London in 2024, and Artisan Fayre in 2023 and 2024. She also demonstrated needlework for the RSN in the Backet Pageant Demonstration at Guildhall Yard in London, the Knitting and Stitching show in London, and the Hampton Court Artisan Fayre.

Tracy A Franklin

Tracy A Franklin is a freelance specialist embroiderer working from Fowlers Yard studios, in Back Silver Street, Durham City.

Tracy trained initially in pattern cutting and garment construction in Leeds, then went on to learn costume making in London, and continued her training on the apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework in 1991, learning fine traditional embroidery where she continued to work and teach, then embarked on a freelance career in 2001.

Tracy teaches both as a freelance embroiderer, and for the Royal School of Needlework managing RSN Durham.

Living and working in Durham, Tracy leads Durham Cathedral Broderers for Durham Cathedral including designing for ecclesiastical work within the cathedral, alongside maintaining and conserving the vestments already in there.

She is the author of three publications, which include New Ideas in Goldwork, Contemporary Whitework, both published by BT Batsford Ltd, and Crewel work which is self-published.

Zina Kazban

Zina Kazban left her career in HR to pursue her lifelong passion for hand embroidery, which led her to the Future Tutors course at the Royal School of Needlework. Later, she also completed a professional fashion embroidery course at Ecole Lesage (Métiers d’Art CHANEL).

Following her graduation, she worked at the RSN Embroidery Studio. In this role, she was involved in various conservation and restoration projects.  Her involvement extended to being part of the collaborative team responsible for creating embroidery for regalia for the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Over the years, Zina has designed and taught embroidery classes at The Royal School of Needlework, The Crewel Work Company, London Embroidery School, and London Craft Week.

Zina is passionate about historical fashion embroidery and designs classes based on iconic costumes and objects from the past. She is based in southwest London, where she teaches her embroidery courses.

Zoe Patching

Zoe Patching achieved an honours degree in Constructed Textiles from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, specialising in woven textiles. After graduating, she completed a Graduate Placement scheme at Anthony Haines Textiles, designing woven textiles for women’s wear. Following two years in Scotland, Zoe joined the RSN Apprenticeship, completing the course with a Distinction in 2002.

On completion of her embroidery training, Zoe returned to the RSN to teach on the Apprenticeship course and to work on bespoke commissions. Zoe went on to work in publishing as technical editor, across several stitching and craft titles, commissioning, designing, stitching and writing monthly technical features. Zoe has contributed to stitching publications for over 20 years.
Alongside this, Zoe joined The Makery to teach hand embroidery workshops, and more recently she has taught a beginners’ embroidery workshop at Bath Spa University, on the Theatre, Festival and Event Production degree course.
