15 DECADES OF EMBROIDERY
The RSN Embroidery Studio has produced a series of 15 kits – one for each of the 15 decades since the founding of the Royal School of Needlework. The kit designs are taken from our archives and have been developed in a range of techniques and levels for embroiderers to enjoy and learn.
Canvas Handbag 1910sÂ
In 1916 the Royal School of Needlework created a new department to solely create lingerie. The department designed and embroidered various lingerie items including articles used in a ladies trousseau. These were produced for many clients including royalty. This canvas work handbag has been adapted from a quilted nightdress case from this era. By using a completely different technique we can show how good design works across many embroidery techniques. Â
