£180.00
Join us for an exclusive RSN Experience Class inspired by 'Flower Human' an Arts & Craft style embroidery on display at our new exhibition, Divine and Mythical Creatures from the RSN Collection & Archive. Your day will begin with a private highlights tour of the display with our Curator of Textiles, Dr Isabella Rosner.
During the day RSN Tutor, Helen Jones, will teach you how to create this beautiful flower motif. You will learn how to make and embellish wired petals to create the flower. The leaves will be worked in blended colours using Fishbone Stitch and the centre of your flower will be finished with a tiny pearl beads.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors but you will be able to borrow ring frames and scissors on the day.
Pease meet us at Hampton Court Palace Reception/Security at 9.40am on the day. You will have a short coffee break in the morning and please bring a packed lunch and any drinks you may require during the day.
The Object: Flower HumanÂ
Dr Isabella Rosner says: "Like many of our donated pieces, we know very little about the object we call 'Flower Human' but it was probably made by a woman in the home circa 1900 or 1910. The embroidery looks like silk shading but it's almost entirely worked in split stitches in the Arts and Crafts style."
You will view this object as part of your curator-led highlights tour of Divine and Mythical Creatures. The exhibition showcases fantastical pieces from Royal School of Needlework’s Collection & Archive with a focus on imaginary earthly and celestial beings, both human and animal. Objects on display span multiple centuries and continents, illustrating everything from dragons to heraldic beasts and ancient gods and goddesses.
