HCP26014 Great Sundew
View map
£153.00
This design depicts a great sundew or English sundew, a carnivorous plant that attracts and captures insects using the sticky hair-like tendrils that cover its leaves. The plant has developed its unique diet as it is unable to extract enough nutrients from the acidic soil in which it grows. However, this specific species of sundew has been threatened because of changes to its environment and the loss of habitat.
This design provides an introduction to long and short shading of the leaves from green to pink. It also covers other surface stitches, including split stitch, stem stitch, satin sticth and colonial knots. It is finished with the application of glass beads to recreate the sticky dew at the tips of the leaves' hair-like tendrils. Using a selection of bright stranded cottons and glass beads, this design is worked on a complementary pale-green cotton fabric.
All the stitches will be covered within the tuition and you will be provided with a detailed instruction booklet to enable you to complete the design after the class. The repetition of the design elements provides plenty of opportunities to practise and perfect these techniques. This class is suitable for embroiderers of all levels.
You can explore many more stitches in the RSN Stitch Bank.
Please note this is an onsite class at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
