Jay- A Silk and Metal Thread Embroidery Kit by Becky Hogg

£69.50

Due in 25th March 2024

The NEW kit from Becky Hogg Embroidery celebrates the technique of metal thread work. With a combination of silk covered purls and fine metal wire threads, the Jay embroidery captures this beautiful bird with its peachy copper and electric blue plumage.

Jay’s are shy birds but you can often get a fleeting glance in woodland as they forage for acorns in the Autumn.

The threads in Metal work embroidery are held on the surface of the fabric by a sewing thread, and depending on the type of metal it is either stitched over or through, like a bead. The application and finish of each thread creates a different texture to suit the style of the design whether it be smooth and shiny or layered and sculptural.

About Becky

"My interest in Embroidery was ignited in my early 20’s, after completing my textile degree at Loughborough Art college. With a passion to further my knowledge of historical textiles and embroidery I embarked upon a 3 year apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework , Hampton Court Palace.

The practical skills and proffesional practice acquired during my studies covered all aspects of hand embroidery, and now form an important of my work today.

Working for over 20 years as a professional hand embroiderer I now specialise in metal thread embroidery (Goldwork). The textures, jewellery like finish and the good old fashioned sparkle hold endless inspiration for me as an embroidery designer."
