ONLTT250102 Technical Tuesday – Crewelwork – Term 2
£400.00
Join Jacqui McDonald, RSN Tutor and the author of the RSN Essential Stitch Guide to Crewelwork, online for Technical Tuesdays as she introduces you to all the major Crewelwork stitches. Crewelwork is a traditional form of surface embroidery worked on linen using a two-ply Crewel wool giving the name Crewelwork. Also sometimes referred to as Jacobean, it rose to the height of fashion during the reign of King James I — the British Jacobean period — and most examples are stitched in the Jacobean style with bold and exotic stylised foliage, insects and animals.

This course is aimed at the beginner embroiderer and runs over three terms of ten weeks each.
Term Two will run from 10am - 12pm UK on the following ten Tuesdays:
January 13, 20, 27
February 3, 10, 24 (no class on 17)
March 3, 10, 17, 24
Please note that this is an online class. Please click here to view important joining information about online classes.
Jacqui will meet you online introduce you to a different stitch each week. She will show you how to produce and perfect each stitch before showing you variations on how you might later use that stitch within a design. Each week as we delve into each stitch, you will also be able to have an exciting peek into the beautiful RSN collection of historic embroidery pieces to see different examples of that weeks stitch and how other embroiderers have interpreted that stitch within past designs.
A kit is included which contains all the materials you will need. You will also need a 24" slate frame or a 24" hand rotating frame either of which can be purchased via the RSN Shop.
If you don't already have the following, you will also need:
• Embroidery scissors
• Tape measure
• Glass headed pins
• Small ruler
• Fine tip water erasable pen
The course will be open to just 15 students, so during the two hours online Jacqui will be on hand whilst you practice your technique on your own sampler.
By the end of each term you should have a sampler of 10 stitches and their variations, if you complete all three terms, by the end of the course you should have your own sampler of over 30 stitches and their variations. This will be a great resource for further development as well as an ornate piece to treasure.
September - December 2025
The first term will ease you in gently by introducing you to the most basic stitches.
January - March 2026
In the second term we will move onto more complex stitches.
April - June 2026
In the third term we will seek to perfect those exacting stitches that require more precision.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
