15 DECADES OF EMBROIDERY
The RSN Embroidery Studio has produced a series of 15 kits – one for each of the 15 decades since the founding of the Royal School of Needlework. The kit designs are taken from our archives and have been developed in a range of techniques and levels for embroiderers to enjoy and learn.
A delicate silk shading embroidery kit featuring an elegant plum blossom branch, inspired by a historic design from the Royal School of Needlework archive. The original artwork is believed to have formed part of a four-panel decorative screen.
This design reflects the influence of the Japonisme Revival of the 1870s—a period when Japanese aesthetics captivated European artists following the reopening of Japan to international trade in 1858.
Worked using traditional silk shading techniques on silk fabric, this piece captures subtle tonal transitions and fine detail, bringing the plum blossom motif to life with softness and realism.
The kit includes all materials required to complete the design, along with a detailed instruction booklet to guide you through the process.
