The decoration on this enchanting moth motif is inspired by a proliferation of winged insects embroidered on a seventeenth century head cloth, held in the collection of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, Stratford-upon-Avon. The project is worked in stranded cotton, metallic threads, beads and sequins on a cotton satin ground. Surface stitch techniques include Stem Stitch, Satin Stitch, fine Long and Short Stitch, Couching with beads and sequin embellishments
