Fern Sampler with Natalie Rowe
View map
£275.00
From unfurling fronds to delicate feathery leaves and bold graphic shapes, this design draws on different species of ferns to create a sampler inspired by their beauty and variety. While some species have vivid evergreen leaves (often adorned with golden spores), others turn to delicate shades of copper in the winter.
This class will provide an introduction to a number of surface stitches, including fly stitch, fishbone stitch, chain stitch, buttonhole stitch and stem stitch. In addition, a variety of metal work techniques are also used to embellish the design. These include couching, felt padding and chipping, s’ing and Elizabethan double looped edging. Worked in copper threads, the design imitates the rusty tones and textures of the different fern species.
All the stitches will be covered in the tuition, and you will be provided with a detailed instruction booklet to enable you to complete the design after the class.
The design is stitched on a dark-green linen fabric in shades of green, orange and brown stranded cottons. Furthermore, students will be able to experiment with using a variety of copper threads and materials, including passing, bright check, wire check, pearl purl and spangles.
This class is suitable for embroiderers of all levels, particularly those looking for an introduction to metal work techniques. Some embroidery experience may be helpful.
Please note this is an in-person class at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
