This is a style of Dawn Thread work that dates back to 16th century Sicily.
The class starts with the withdrawing of some of the threads from the design area. The remaining threads are then wrapped to form a “netted” area on which the pattern is woven. Traditionally there are 3 ways of forming the pattern, in this class the “400” style of weaving in both directions will be used. There will be the opportunity to personalize this pattern by replacing the heart with a different design– for example a flower or initial.
Some experience of a counted thread technique - such as Cross Stitch - is not essential but would be useful for this class.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
