This Crewelwork motif was inspired by nature, and designed for the beginner stitcher in mind. It uses Appletons wool threads on a twill fabric, similar to those used for traditional Jacobean technique, which dates back centuries.
The stitches used for this project are suitable for the beginner but are also suitable for someone with a little experience who wants to improve their basic embroidery skills. These stitches are basic and are used in many embroidery techniques, even at the highest level. They are repeated throughout this project to help the stitcher gain experience, confidence and speed. Stitches used are: Chain Stitch, Whipped Chain Stitch, Detached Chain, Stem Stitch, Fly Stitch (open, closed and whipped), and Seed Stitch. The complete Leaf motif measures approximately 11cm x 9.5cm.
The kit includes fabric with printed design lines, crewel 2ply threads, needles, and instructions.
You can explore many more stitches on the RSN Stitch Bank.
Please note this is an onsite class which will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
