Inspired by the symbolic eye motifs featured in my signature piece The Tears of Saint Clare, this class explores contemporary approaches to traditional Goldwork techniques through the creation of a wearable brooch.

Students will learn how to prepare the design before creating the eye motif using a combination of couched metal threads, purls, and cutwork techniques. The piece will be embellished with a faceted gemstone and finished with a suspended glass teardrop detail.

Finally, students will learn how to mount and finish the embroidery as a wearable brooch using a roll-over clasp fastening. Alongside technical embroidery skills, we will explore symbolism, devotional imagery and contemporary storytelling within embroidery practice.

By the end of the class students will have completed a meaningful, eye-catching keepsake and gained confidence in Goldwork techniques including couching, cutwork and applied finishing methods.

Please note this is an in-person class at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU.
